Introduction
The Cineplex Usability Testing Team was tasked with evaluating the main features of the website. The main features selected for evaluation were Finding a Movie; Purchasing Tickets and Purchasing Food. Usability Test Plan UTP-001 was created to evaluate these functions and was signed and approved by the Supervised person, the Project Overseer. Testing went underway on October 26th and was completed on 8th November 2024. Eight(8) usability testing sessions were completed with two participants for each member of the team. During the session the participants signed consent forms and consented to be recorded in the session. This document provides a details of the findings.
Creation of test plan
We developed a test plan to align our thoughts and to execute it further

The goal of this test plan is to evaluate the effectiveness of the Cineplex site for specific Jobs to be Done (JTBD). The site will be evaluated based on specific usability heuristics as well as user satisfaction. This test plan will:
-
Evaluate the navigation structure and findability of items on the site.
-
Identify usability issues that users encounter when attempting to complete specific tasks.
-
Document qualitative data from each participant regarding their feedback and satisfaction.
-
Suggest actionable steps based on the feedback from participants.
Project Overview
We conducted a usability testing study to evaluate the effectiveness of the Cineplex website in enabling users to complete key tasks efficiently. The study aimed to assess the site's usability based on key heuristics and user satisfaction while identifying pain points and areas for improvement.
Goals and Objectives
Task 1
Find a G rated movie for the weekend and check if it is showing at the user’s favorite theatre.
Objective
Success Metrix
To establish whether filters are usable to narrow down movies to G-rated ones, and if users can tell if the selected movie is showing at their favorite theatre.
Users are able to find the G-rated movie filter without assistance (within 2 minutes).
Viewers can independently verify whether or not the movie is available at their favorite theatre without consulting anyone for help.
Task 2
Customize and Purchase Tickets
This task has several mini-goals, these are:
-
Select a ticket for one person in Standard.
-
Adjust the seating to D-Box.
-
Add tickets for more people in D-Box.
-
Adjust the seating for the added persons.
-
Select balcony seating.
Objective
Success Metrix
To assess the navigation of the ticket purchasing wizard and the usability of the seating chart.
-
Users are able to successfully purchase tickets for a movie in under 5 minutes without guidance.
-
Participants are easily able to change their ticket type from Standard to D-Box.
-
Participants are easily able to navigate back to the previous step and add tickets or change the ticket type.
-
Participants are easily able to change the default seating in the seating chart.
Task 3
Find an IMAX Movie
Objective
Success Metrix
In this case, the usability heuristics evaluation criteria include the ability to find an IMAX movie using filters and the examination of its availability.
-
Through the filters, it takes a user no more than three minutes to look for their favorite IMAX movie.
-
People are also able to confirm availability of the IMAX show time at the time preferred through participation.
-
The observation with the feedback provided by the participants is that the filter is easily identified and not confused with other Cineplex movie filters.
